Wishing all of you a Happy Easter today from my family to yours! Yesterday, David, Aria, and I went to stay with my parents in Sandwich, Illinois to celebrate. My sisters happen to be in town visiting from Seattle, WA, so the whole family (sans my awesome brother-in-law who is in the military and was missed very much) was there for the festivities. We planned an epic (world not used lightly, we hid A LOT of eggs) Easter egg hunt for the girls that (of course) also turned into a spur-of-the-moment photo session. I’ll have to share more images later, but we’re rushing out the door with all the kids to church in an hour, so I’m on limited time.
I couldn’t post about Easter, though, without reflecting on the day itself and its meaning (you know, besides the whole eating my weight in Cadburry eggs thing, which I totally plan on doing later in case you were wondering). Ultimately, Easter is a day about love. The kind of love that sacrifices itself for others. The kind of love that is selfless, kind, and eternal.
I can probably never hope to live up to that standard, but I would like to spend the rest of my life trying.
So – Happy Easter, my friends. Go out and eat that chocolate – but remember today is about love. It’s about selflessness. It’s about hope, rebirth, and new chances every morning to live up to that kind of beautiful standard.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. // John 15:13
